Google Forms vs Typeform in 2026: Which to Pick, and When Neither Fits
Typeform's free plan takes 10 responses a month; a Google Form takes up to 500,000. A scored, sourced comparison of price, logic, design and data, by use case.
The short version
- Price decides most cases. Google Forms is free with a personal Google account and accepts up to 500,000 responses per form; Typeform's Free plan allows 10 responses a month across all forms, and Basic costs 39 USD a month billed monthly.
- Typeform wins on respondent experience and logic: one question per screen, branching, hidden questions, scoring and calculations, with logic available even on the Free plan. Google Forms branches only from multiple choice and dropdown answers.
- Typeform's 47% average completion rate is a vendor claim with no published method. A meta-analysis of 14 mobile survey studies found no breakoff effect from scrolling vs paging layouts.
- For data residency, Google Workspace offers US or EU data regions on eligible editions, while Typeform lists its US or EU data centre choice as Enterprise only.
On price and volume, Google Forms wins before the comparison starts. Typeform's Free plan collects 10 responses a month across every form you own, while a single Google Form can accept up to 500,000. So the real question in Google Forms vs Typeform is narrower: is Typeform's respondent experience and logic worth paying for, for this particular form?
Typeform is the better form. Google Forms is the better deal. Which one you need depends on who is answering. We checked every price, limit and feature below on Google's and Typeform's own pages on 8 October 2026, scored both tools on 9 criteria, and gave a verdict per use case. Where neither fits, we say so.
Pick Google Forms for internal forms, classrooms, large surveys and anything on a zero budget: it is free and takes up to 500,000 responses per form. Pick Typeform for customer-facing forms where design, branching and brand matter, and budget at least 39 USD a month. If you need spoken answers, neither free plan does that.
The short verdict, by use case
Most comparison posts end with "it depends". Here is what it depends on, up front. We think the right default for most teams is Google Forms, with Typeform reserved for the forms your customers see.
| Use case | Our pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Internal requests, HR checklists, team polls | Google Forms | Free, respondents already signed in, Sheets built in |
| Classroom quizzes and assignments | Google Forms | Quizzes, Google accounts, no response caps worth worrying about |
| Large surveys on a fixed budget | Google Forms | 500,000 responses per form vs paid response bands |
| Lead generation and marketing forms | Typeform | Logic, recall, scoring, branding and conversion tracking on paid plans |
| Product and brand-sensitive customer surveys | Typeform | One question per screen, themes, branding removal from Plus |
| Quizzes with scored outcomes for customers | Typeform | Scoring and outcome quizzes with multiple endings |
| EU data residency on a mid-size budget | Google Workspace | Data regions on eligible editions; Typeform's choice is Enterprise only |
| Spoken or open-ended answers at length | Neither free tier | Typeform audio is on Growth and Talent plans; or a voice-first tool |
The last row is where we have an interest, so we keep it short and come back to it near the end.
Pricing and response limits as of October 2026
This is the criterion that decides the most cases, so it goes first. Google and Typeform charge in completely different ways, and that difference matters more than any feature.
Google Forms: free, with generous per-form caps
Google Forms costs nothing with a personal Google account. Paid Google Workspace plans add administration and AI features rather than a Forms fee. From September 2026, each form can receive up to 500,000 responses and hold up to 1 GB of total storage, excluding uploaded files, according to Google's response management page. Uploaded files count against the form owner's Google Drive storage instead.
Typeform: response bands per account, per month
Typeform prices by monthly responses across your whole account. Typeform's help centre puts the Free plan at 10 responses a month across all forms, and warns that it experiments with pricing, so your account may show different plans. Paid plans on Typeform's pricing page as of 8 October 2026 are below.
- Billed monthly
- Billed yearly
Seats run from 1 on Basic to 5 on Business, and add-ons lift the monthly ceiling to 750, 2,500 and 50,000 responses respectively. Limits are shared across all forms in the account, and unused responses do not roll over.
What happens when a Typeform account runs out
Hitting a response band is not a billing surprise; it is a closed form. Typeform's response limits article describes the sequence.
- 1Warning at 90%Typeform emails you and shows a notice in your account when you reach 90% of the month's limit.
- 2Second notice at 100%Another email and in-app notice when the limit is reached.
- 3Forms go into private modeEvery form on the account stops accepting responses, and respondents see a message that the form is not accepting answers.
- 4Deleting responses does not helpDeleted responses still count towards that month's limit.
- 5Reopen by waiting or payingForms become public again at the start of the next month, or when you upgrade or buy a response add-on.
We would not put a time-sensitive form, such as event registration, on a Typeform plan without auto-upgrade or headroom. Google Forms has the opposite default: it never closes on you unless you set a limit yourself.
Logic and branching
Here Typeform is clearly ahead. Google's help page on sections says "go to section based on answer" is only available for multiple choice and dropdown questions. You can also end the form early based on an answer. That covers simple paths, such as "Are you a current customer?", and little else.
Typeform's branching can send a respondent to a specific question, a question group or one of several endings. Its help centre lists further logic tools: hiding individual questions, hiding answer choices, calculations, scoring and outcome quizzes. Recall lets a later question use an earlier answer, such as a name. Typeform includes logic on its Free plan, so you can test it before paying.
For a deeper look at when branching helps and when it just adds paths to maintain, see our guide to conditional logic in forms.
Design and the respondent experience
Typeform shows one question per screen, with full-screen layouts, themes, keyboard navigation and a brand logo. Plus and above remove Typeform branding and add a custom subdomain. Custom fonts and custom domains are Enterprise only.
Google Forms lets you set a header image, a theme colour, a background colour and font styles for headers, questions and text. Questions sit on scrolling pages that you split with sections. It looks like a Google Form, and for an internal audience that recognisability is a feature.
The completion rate claim needs a label
Typeform's case for one question at a time is that it gets more people to finish. Typeform's help centre states an average completion rate of 47%. A 2024 Typeform press release gave 47.3% for 2023 against an industry average of 21.5%, without naming where the industry figure came from. These are vendor claims. They compare Typeform's own users with an unnamed benchmark, not the same form in two layouts.
Independent survey research is more cautious. A meta-analysis of 14 mobile web survey studies, with 39 independent samples, found no effect of a scrolling design on breakoff. What did cut breakoff: mobile-optimised surveys, shorter surveys, email invitations, prerecruitment and more reminders. An earlier experiment by the same authors found scrolling was faster to complete on mobile, with a breakoff difference that was not statistically significant.
We think the honest reading is that layout matters less than length. A 6-question Google Form will likely beat a 25-question typeform. We cover the evidence on what actually drives abandonment in which question types cause form drop-off.
Integrations, data and APIs
Google Forms links responses to Google Sheets natively, downloads them as CSV, and has a developer API for reading forms and responses. It is the obvious pick when the destination is already a spreadsheet. See our guide to sending form responses to Google Sheets.
Typeform's pricing page lists native connections to Google Sheets, Airtable, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Mailchimp, Slack, Calendly and Salesforce, plus more than 500 services through Zapier, webhooks and APIs. Its Free plan help page lists several integrations, including Salesforce, Google Analytics and Meta Pixel, as paid only. For marketing teams wiring forms into a CRM, Typeform is the stronger hub.
Data residency and ownership
Google Workspace can keep Forms responses in the United States or Europe on eligible editions, per Google's data regions table. Personal Google accounts get no region choice.
Typeform's pricing page lists "Choose your preferred data center (US or EU)" as Enterprise only, alongside SSO and HIPAA. Its help centre says EU data hosting is available on Enterprise or Growth Custom plans. The same pricing page says Typeform's systems are located in AWS.
On ownership, both say your content is yours. Google's Terms of Service, effective 30 July 2026, say Google won't claim ownership of your content. Typeform's service terms say it does not claim ownership of user submissions or respondent data, and take a licence to provide and improve the service, with improvement on an aggregated basis. Typeform's terms also allow it to close a free account after 24 months without a login.
Scored comparison: Google Forms vs Typeform
Scores are our judgement, from 1 to 5, based on the sourced facts above. The weights are equal, which favours neither tool by design. Change the weights for your own case and the total will move.
| Criterion | Google Forms | Typeform | What decides it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | 5 | 2 | Free vs 28 to 129 USD a month for core plans |
| Response volume | 5 | 2 | 500,000 per form vs 10 a month free, 100 on Basic |
| Logic and branching | 2 | 5 | Section jumps from 2 question types vs branching, hiding, scoring |
| Respondent experience and design | 3 | 5 | Themed scrolling pages vs one question per screen, branding control |
| Integrations | 3 | 5 | Native Sheets and API vs CRM connectors and 500+ via Zapier |
| Analytics | 3 | 4 | Gemini text summaries on eligible plans vs drop-off analysis from Business |
| Data residency and admin | 4 | 2 | Workspace data regions and domain controls vs Enterprise-only region choice |
| Voice and video answers | 1 | 3 | None vs audio and video on Growth and Talent plans |
| Familiarity for respondents | 5 | 3 | A format many respondents already recognise |
| Total (out of 45) | 31 | 31 | A tie on equal weights; your weights decide |
The tie is the point. If price, volume and admin controls carry most weight for you, Google Forms wins comfortably. If logic, design and integrations carry most weight, Typeform does. The table cannot pick for you, but it shows exactly what you are trading.
Where this comparison falls short
We make a third product, Would You Rather, which is why it appears in this post at all. We have tried to keep it out of the scoring. Four other limits are worth stating.
First, both vendors change prices and limits often. Typeform's own pricing page showed two sets of monthly prices on the day we checked, and its help centre warns that plans are being experimented with. Second, the scores are ours. Reasonable people would score design or integrations differently, and we would not argue hard over a point either way.
Third, we have not measured completion rates ourselves. The independent research we cite studied scrolling vs paging in panel surveys, not Typeform specifically. Fourth, we did not test enterprise contracts, HIPAA terms or Workspace admin settings in practice; those claims come from each vendor's pages.
When neither fits
Both tools are built around typed answers. Google Forms has no audio question type at all. Typeform offers audio and video answers, with auto-generated transcripts, but its help centre puts them on Growth and Talent plans only, with a 2-minute cap per answer. The cheapest of those, Talent, is 119 USD a month billed yearly as of October 2026.
If your form exists to hear people explain something, such as a hiring screen, a customer interview or field research, a voice-first form builder is a third option. Would You Rather, which we make, puts a voice field next to an optional text box, works in the phone browser without respondent sign-in, and syncs recordings to Google Sheets. It does not transcribe. We compare it with each tool directly in Would You Rather vs Google Forms and Would You Rather vs Typeform, and we explain the trade-offs of spoken answers in our voice survey analysis.
How to choose in one afternoon
Write down three numbers: responses you expect next month, forms you will run, and budget per month. If responses exceed 1,000 and budget is under 60 USD, the choice is already Google Forms. If budget is no constraint and the form is customer-facing, start a Typeform trial.
For anything in between, build the same 6-question form in both tools and send each to half your list. Compare completions, not impressions. If Typeform does not finish clearly ahead on your audience, keep your money. If you are still unsure about Typeform, our list of Typeform alternatives covers the tools in between.

The weakest point in this source base: the completion rate evidence is either vendor-reported without a method or comes from panel surveys that tested page layouts, not these two products.
Questions people ask
Is Typeform better than Google Forms?
For customer-facing forms where design and logic matter, usually yes. Typeform shows one question per screen, supports branching, hidden questions, scoring and calculations, and lets paid plans remove its branding. For internal forms, classrooms, large surveys or zero budgets, Google Forms is the better choice: it is free, accepts up to 500,000 responses per form and links to Google Sheets natively. Neither records voice answers on a free plan.
How many responses can you get on Typeform for free?
Typeform's help centre says the Free plan collects 10 responses per month across all your forms, not per form. When an account reaches its limit, forms go into private mode until the next month or an upgrade. Typeform notes it sometimes experiments with pricing, so the plans in your account may differ. Paid plans start at 100 responses a month on Basic, as of October 2026.
How much does Typeform cost in 2026?
As of 8 October 2026, Typeform's pricing page plan cards list Basic at 39 USD a month billed monthly or 28 USD a month billed yearly, Plus at 79 or 56 USD, and Business at 129 or 91 USD. The Talent plan is 169 or 119 USD. The comparison table lower on the same page showed lower figures, so check the checkout price before buying.
Does Google Forms have conditional logic like Typeform?
Partly. Google Forms can send respondents to a different section based on their answer, but Google's help page says this works only for multiple choice and dropdown questions. Typeform's logic covers branching to questions, groups or endings, hiding individual questions, hiding answer choices, calculations and scoring. If your form needs more than a few simple paths, Typeform's logic is considerably stronger.
Do Typeform forms really get higher completion rates?
Typeform says typeforms have an average completion rate of 47%, but it does not publish how that figure was calculated or compare like-for-like forms. Independent survey research is less clear. A 2015 meta-analysis of 14 mobile web survey studies found no effect of scrolling vs paging design on breakoff; shorter surveys and mobile optimisation mattered more. Test on your own audience before assuming a lift.
Which is better for GDPR and data residency, Google Forms or Typeform?
It depends on your plan. Google Workspace data regions can keep Forms responses in the United States or Europe on eligible editions, including a fundamental version on Business Standard and Business Plus. Typeform lists choosing a US or EU data centre as Enterprise only, and its help centre also mentions Growth Custom. Both say you own your data and both take a licence to run the service.
